Facilities Friday: Why can’t schools just budget for major repairs?

In many states, school districts receive funding for large facility improvements. Michigan is one of the few that does not — meaning these costs are primarily supported by local communities through bond proposals.

At G-A, our $18 million budget supports staff, instruction, and daily operations. About $1.6 million (8.9%) is allocated to operations and maintenance, covering essentials like payroll, energy, and general upkeep.

These funds keep our buildings running — but they aren’t designed to cover major repairs.

Check out the graphic for a breakdown of how those dollars are used, an visit gacsbond2026.com for more information.
